Batter
South Australia’s youngest ever First-Class captain and a talented, aggressive left-hand batter, Travis Head was earmarked for big things at a young age. He had made his Sheffield Shield debut at the age of 18 in the 2011/12 season and established his place in the South Australia batting line-up. Having been viewed as a future leader ever since he captained South Australia to the Under 19 National Championship title in 2012/13 – where he was named Player of the Championship – Head was named captain of the Redbacks at age 21, steering them to their first Sheffield Shield final in 20 years in 2015/16. Head earned his first Australian call-up for a series of T20Is against India in early 2016, before becoming Australian Test player 454 on October 2018 in the first Test against Pakistan in Dubai. Head's explosive batting style has made him a valuable asset for Australia. He has the ability to provide quick runs and keep the scoreboard ticking with his aggressive stroke play.
The 2021/22 Ashes proved career defining for Head as he cemented himself as an important part of the Australian outfit, producing a thrilling, match-defining 85-ball century in a session at the Gabba. Another blistering hundred followed in the final game in Hobart to secure the Compton-Miller medal as Player of the Series despite missing the Sydney Test with Covid. In the 2023 World Test Championships, Head became the first player to score a century in the final.
