Batter
Nathan McSweeney made his First-Class debut for Queensland in 2018 at the ripe age of 19, after playing for Australia in the 2018 ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup. A middle-order batter and handy off-spin bowler, McSweeney moved to South Australia ahead of the 2021/22 summer and has become a regular in all formats for the West End Redbacks. The man known as ‘Buddha’ made his maiden First-Class century against Tasmania in the 2022/23 Shield season and backed it up the following match, bringing up his second ton in the following match against Western Australia. McSweeney won the Barry Jarman Award as the most improved after his 2022/23 season. His form warranted him selection in the Australia A tour of New Zealand in April 2023 and he made two half centuries as co-captain of the Australian side. The West End Redbacks have secured the up-and-coming leaders’ signature until the end of the 2025/26 season.
