The South Australian Cricket Association is preparing to host the Sheffield Shield final at Karen Rolton Oval from Wednesday March 26, following the decision from the AFL not to allow the match to be played at Adelaide Oval.
Will Rayner, SACA Chair said:
“SACA is disappointed not to be able to host the Sheffield Shield final at our traditional home of cricket. We were confident in our ability to satisfy every demand made of us with regards to player safety and financial indemnity. However, we respect that the ultimate decision regarding the use of Adelaide Oval in this instance was not ours to make.
Our focus now turns to the exciting opportunity to become the first SA team to win the one-day and Shield competitions in the same year. We look forward to hosting the final, and welcoming thousands of South Australian cricket fans to Karen Rolton Oval.
The SACA extends sincere thanks to Premier Malinauskas, Cricket Australia, cricket States and Territories, and the world-class AOSMA team for all their support this week.”
SACA CEO, Charlie Hodgson said:
“We are extremely lucky to have such a magnificent facility as the Karen Rolton Oval and will be making sure the event is fitting of a major final. It promises to be an exciting week with preparations already underway.”
The South Australian Men currently sit proudly at the top of the Sheffield Shield ladder with six wins, two draws and only one loss for the season. Having recently secured the Dean Jones Trophy for the One-Day Cup, the Men’s team are looking for their first ever domestic double winning season. Their final game of the regular season will be against Queensland at Karen Rolton Oval beginning Saturday, March 15.
