From South Australian cricket pathways to the Australian Men’s Deaf Cricket Team, it has been a journey of resilience and hard work for young gun Shrey Patel.
Currently plying his trade at East Torrens Cricket Club, following a successful junior career at Gaza Cricket Club, Patel who wears a Cochlear implant, wants to inspire others in the deaf community.
“Being selected in the Australian Deaf Team is more than just an achievement, it’s a dream realised,” Patel said.
“It represents years of dedication, resilience and passion for the game.
“More importantly though, it provides me with a chance to hopefully inspire others in the deaf community and prove that cricket has no limits.”
The left-arm wrist-spinner, who has been selected in the national team for the fourth time, said playing Premier Cricket in Adelaide has proven invaluable in helping him realise his dream.
“East Torrens has been crucial in my journey to the Australian Deaf Team,” Patel said.
“Playing at a competitive level has helped me refine my skills, develop a strong work ethic, and gain valuable match experience.
“The structured training environment and exposure to high-level competition has pushed me to improve both technically and mentally.”
Patel was also full of praise for the South Australian Cricket Association and the opportunities it has provided him.
“The programs at SACA have been crucial to my development,” he said.
“They have offered high-performance training, top-tier facilities, and elite competitive opportunities.
“Travelling to Brisbane for NCIC last January was a game-changer, sharpening my skills, strengthening my mindset and preparing me for challenges of top-level cricket.”
Patel will join teammates in Melbourne on Wednesday 26 February, ahead of their tour of India.
