Travis Head has become the first South Australian to claim the Allan Border Medal at tonight’s Australian Cricket Awards.
Head polled 208 votes in the count, 50 votes ahead of Josh Hazlewood, while skipper Pat Cummins finished in third position.
He was also awarded the Men’s ODI Player of the Year to cap off a brilliant season.
The hard-hitting left-hander made 608 Test runs in 2024 at an average of 40.53, including three brilliant centuries, highlighted by his run-a-ball ton against India in front of his home crowd at Adelaide Oval.
His five One Day Internationals netted 252 runs at an average of 63, while he amassed 539 in 15 T20 Internationals at an average of 38.50 and a strike rate of 178.47.
While Head claimed the AB Medal and ODI Player of the Year, he was just one vote shy of Hazlewood in the Test Player of the Year award and three votes behind Adam Zampa for the T20I Player of the Year award, seeing him narrowly miss an extraordinary clean sweep.
