Magnificent unbeaten centuries to Mackenzie Harvey and Daniel Drew have sealed a bonus point victory for South Australia over Victoria in the One-Day Cup clash at Karen Rolton Oval.
It was Harvey’s maiden One-Day Cup hundred, with the powerful left-hander finishing on 134* from 110 balls in an innings that included 17 fours and three sixes, while Drew’s (108*) second ODC ton consisted of 13 fours and three sixes.
The pair combined for a 209-run second-wicket partnership, on their way to a nine-wicket win.
Having won the toss, Alex Carey asked Victoria to bat first under overcast skies in Adelaide.
South Australia started brightly with the ball, reducing the visitors to 3-42 in the ninth over, before a 78-run partnership between Peter Handscomb and Tom Rogers steadied the ship.
Liam Scott broke the partnership, thanks to a magnificent catch by Carey diving to his left, but Handscomb continued on his way, reaching an excellent century, as he and Jonothan Merlo put on 112 for the fifth wicket.
Spencer Johnson picked up where he left off with the new ball, finishing with figures of 4-46, as Victoria ended their innings on 7-286.
Carey and Harvey got the home side off to a rollicking start, reaching 80 from nine overs, before the South Australian skipper skied one to mid-off for 36.
Harvey then brought up his first half century in South Australian colours, reaching the milestone off 38 balls.
The left-hander combined with Daniel Drew to push their partnership past 100 and South Australia to 200 with the loss of one wicket, before Harvey brought up his maiden century.
Drew then brought up his ton, helping to secure a bonus point and lifting South Australia to second on the table.
South Australia’s next One-Day Cup game is against New South Wales at Adelaide Oval on Tuesday 12 November.
