SA Men lose to QLD Despite Century from McSweeney

Despite a classy 137 from skipper Nathan McSweeney, South Australia were defeated by Queensland in their One Day Cup clash at Allan Border Field.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, South Australia were in trouble early losing the wickets of Jake Fraser-McGurk, Alex Carey, Daniel Drew and Mackenzie Harvey in quick succession.

McSweeney and Thomas Kelly set about stabilising the innings on an Allan Border Oval pitch that offered the bowlers something with the new ball.

McSweeney brought up a hard-fought half century in the 30th over, as the visitors pushed past a hundred with the loss of four wickets.

With constant wickets falling around him, the elegant right-hander lifted his rate to bring up a brilliant century in the 42nd over, as he single-handedly set out to post a competitive total for Ryan Harris’ men.

South Australia was eventually dismissed for 218 from 47 overs.

Needing quick wickets in the second innings, Queensland openers Usman Khawaja and Jimmy Peirson repelled the new ball attack and raced to 63 from the first powerplay. Despite Lloyd Pope breaking through with the wicket of Usman Khawaja, the Bulls were too good for our SA Men today winning by 9 wickets.
