Our South Australia Women have maintained their unbeaten start to the WNCL season in stunning back-to-back wins against Tasmania.
After being sent into bat first on Friday, our SA Women amassed an impressive total of 9-308. A 100-run partnership with debutant Hollie Armitage (75) and Maddie Penna (52), saw both batters achieve half-centuries.
When it was the reigning premiers turn at the crease, they looked to be in control racing to 2-171. In an exciting fightback, our bowlers took five wickets in the space of eight overs, before bowling Tasmania out for 272, leaving the Tigers 36 runs short.
The sensational comeback was led by strong bowling by Maddie Penna (3-38), Amanda-Jade Wellington (2-65), and Jemma Barsby (3-38) including the final two wickets for SA.
Our second match against Tasmania once again had our SA Women batting first. A strong 88-run knock from Bridget Patterson set up the innings, followed by an excellent 99 runs from Hollie Armitage, sadly just falling short of her maiden WNCL century. Armitage has now scored two half-centuries and a total of 174 runs (75 and 99) from her two first games in South Australian colours.
Defending 290 runs, it was our bowlers turn to put the Tigers under pressure. It only took 1.5 overs to claim their first wicket of the Tasmanian captain Elyse Villani. Naomi Stalenberg was the pick of the Tasmania batters with 51 runs before being caught LBW by Amanda-Jade Wellington who finished with figures of 4-29.
With some excellent fielding and run outs to Ellie Johnson in the 38th over, and Maddie Penna in the 40th over, the game was secured by our SA Women with one over to spare.
The WNCL will return for our women after the Weber WBBL on Wednesday, December 18 against Victoria at CitiPower Centre, Melbourne.
