Scorpions name squad for marquee Adelaide Oval fixture

The SA Scorpions have named a squad of 13 for their back-to-back home WNCL fixtures against Victoria, highlighted by a marquee day/night match at Adelaide Oval on Monday.

Marking the first time the Scorpions will take to Adelaide Oval since it’s redevelopment, the match under lights at the iconic venue will be free entry and will also play host to the annual South Australian Women’s Past Player Event.

Squad of 13 for Round Five v Victoria: Jemma Barsby (C), Bridget Patterson (VC), Sam Betts, Emma de Broughe, Josie Dooley, Eleanor Larosa, Anesu Mushangwe, Courtney Neale, Maddie Penna, Kate Peterson, Courtney Webb, Amanda-Jade Wellington, Ella Wilson

Currently fourth in the standings, with the top two qualifying for the decider, both fixtures are essentially must-win for the Scorpions if they are to catch the likes of Queensland and Tasmania and secure a third consecutive Grand Final appearance.

The squad is the same that took on Queensland earlier this month, forced to settle for a win and a loss, with Eleanor Larosa still hunting a South Australian debut on the back of strong performances at Premier Cricket and Under-19 representative levels.

Reigning WNCL Player of the Tournament Courtney Webb leads the run-scoring tally for South Australia with 289 and a top score of 96*, while skipper Jemma Barsby and leg-spinner Amanda-Jade Wellington sit atop the wickets tally with 14 each.

In the Victorian camp, superstar Meg Lanning has 312 runs at the eye-watering average of 104 and spinner Sophie Molineux has 11 wickets from just four appearances to date.

Monday’s marquee day/night fixture at Adelaide Oval begins at 2pm ACDT and Wednesday’s clast at Karen Rolton Oval kicks off at 10am, with entry to both games free. Fans can also watch live on cricket.com.au and Kayo Sports.
