SA fielding three teams in the National Cricket Inclusion Championships

South Australia will field three teams in the National Cricket Inclusion Championships, set to begin in Brisbane on January 20.

SACA is supporting teams in the following divisions – Blind and Low Vision, Deaf and Hard of Hearing and Cricketers with Intellectual Disability.

It will be the first time in three years that the Deaf and Hard of Hearing team have competed in the Championships and in this time, they have worked hard to recruit new players and will blood four debutants in Brisbane.

There will be another four debutants across the other two divisions.

In addition to those three teams, three South Australian’s will compete in the Women’s Blind and Low Vision and Women’s Deaf and Hard or Hearing divisions respectively.

Jason Temby, Head Coach of Cricketers with an Intellectual Disability said it is a well-balanced all-round T20 team who pride themselves on fielding.

“The team rebuild over the last two years, which saw the injection of youth into the squad coupled with the players having at least one previous tournament experience,” Temby said.

“We are looking to improve on our third-place positioning from last tournament.”

Amir Latifi, Head Coach of the Blind and Vision Impaired Team said the side is ready to take any challenge.

“First game against Queensland will be tough for us,” Latifi said.

“As a team we are ready and we will be playing this game like our Grand Final.”  

David Wood, Head Coach of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Team said the team is confident they will win a few games.

“Bowling is a strength of the team,” Wood said.

“I think it will be an even contest among the five states.”

The Championships will run from January 20-25 in Brisbane.
